Welcome

to the website of the VPH-PRISM, Virtual Physiological Human: Personalised Predictive Breast Cancer Therapy Through Integrated Tissue Micro-Structure Modeling. Begun in March, 2013, the project is funded under the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme for Research. Coordinating the project is EIBIR, the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research with Fraunhofer MEVIS leading the scientific coordination.

Breast cancer is frequent and life threatening, but curable if detected early. For accurate early detection, imaging results (e.g. ultrasound, mammography) and image understanding must be optimised so that the possibility for over-diagnosis is reduced. VPH-PRISM will allow for the modelling of breast tissue microstructure, combining multiple disciplines and scales as well as other factors (environmental, genetic and clinical) that can impact breast cancer progression. With these models in place, a better understanding of breast cancer will be available for each patient; allowing for personalised diagnosis and ensuring the most effective and efficient treatment is used.
